The European Development Days (EDD) are Europe’s leading forum on development and international cooperation. Organized by the European Commission, the forum brings the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. Under the title “Addressing inequalities: building a world which leaves no one behind”, the 13th edition of the EDD, to be celebrated in Brussels (Belgium) on June 18-19, 2019, focuses on promoting equality and shared prosperity with the 2030 Agenda.

In this context, it is with great pleasure that we extend you an invitation to participate in the session that we are co-organizing on:

Based on the experience of several European national and subnational governments, the session will offer an occasion to analyze how the 2030 Agenda presents an opportunity to address shortcomings that are still inherent in development cooperation models, and how such findings can be applicable to the overall decentralized cooperation modality.

Through a lively and dynamic debate, the main goal of the session will be to present how decentralized cooperation can shift from more traditional development projects into a networked and process-based approach that transcends actors, levels and sectors, directly contributing to the localization of the Sustainable Development GoalsAdditionally, the session will provide a unique occasion to discuss how the alignment and harmonization of decentralized cooperation actors, in place of origin and of action, can be promoted through the lens of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Speakers include:

  • Rocío Ruiz, Counselor for Equality, Social Policies and Conciliation of the Regional Government of Andalucía,
  • Gabriel Ferrero, General Director of Sustainable Development Policies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain,
  • Marlène Siméon, Director of PLATFORMA,
  • Carla Montesi, Directorate for Planet and Prosperity of the EU DG for International Cooperation and Development (tbc).

Moderate Johannes Krassnitzer, ART Coordinator, UNDP.
